Chicago Transit Authority (CTA for its acronym in English) is the operator of the second set of largest public transportation in the United States (after the Metropolitan Transportation Authority of New York) and covers the city of Chicago and 40 outlying residential areas. The CTA operates buses and the Chicago "EL", 3 rapid transit system of trains that serve the metropolitan area 24 hours a day.
Chicago has been recognized over the years as a pro cycling city, with more than 160 km (100 miles) of cycle paths, Chicago is a paradise for cyclists. The bike program for the Chicago Department of Transportation has recently installed bike racks and 266 km 10.000 (165 miles) of new routes to bicicletas.4 Bicycles are allowed on all buses and trains at all hours.
In the twentieth century, Chicago got the name of the transport kernel of the nation after the construction of three airports: O'Hare International Airport, Midway Airport and Meigs Field.
In the XXI century, Chicago works to maintain its core status with the expansion of transportation from O'Hare International Airport. Additionally, a new airport has been proposed for Peotone, Illinois, and the city is working to expand its ties with the International Airport Gary / Chicago in Gary, Indiana.
